Students will talk more about narrator’s point of view. We will look at several examples and determine when the author slips from narrator’s point of view and determine what the author could have done differently. Students will have time to work on their narrative that will be graded for elaboration.
By Friday, Students must SHARE (blue button in google docs) their papers with me (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Students can log in to Google Classroom by logging into gmail with their google accounts: email@example.com. Be sure that they type @moberlyspartans.org or it will default to @gmail.com which is incorrect. From there students need to go to the waffle (the square in the upper right hand corner with the broken squares) and click on classroom. If classroom is not an option, click more).
If you have questions, please email me. I will check it frequently tonight.
There will be NO more class time to work on personal narratives!
Unfortunately today I have a meeting and will not be there for 2-5 hours of ELA.
Students will go to the library the first half of class. Then they will work on a reading comprehension activity about the hurricanes in Florida. Students will do an independent reading comprehension activity for practice.
Reminder:One personal narrative due BY FRIDAY for a GRADE.
All About Me Slide due Friday to share with classmates.
Students will learn about adding feelings and emotions into their small moment stories. We will work on envisioning the story and remember exactly how we felt in that moment. The larger the feeling, the smaller you write. Students will work on a previous narrative to add in these details. Students will work on adding inner thinking and writing through narrator's point of view (only using the narrator's senses in that moment).
Library books due tomorrow.
By Friday-- Students will turn in ONE personal narrative to be graded AND their All About Me slide. The personal narrative WILL be a writing grade. There All About Me slide will be shared together on Friday but is NOT for a grade.
Session 3: Today we will talk about how strong emotional memories make powerful personal narratives. We will work on our first/last/time I realized something chart. Students will begin working on their powerful personal narrative #4 in Google classroom.
ALL ABOUT ME Assignment: Students have been working on a Google Slides activity. In order to complete this, they will need some pictures. In order to have the pictures successfully download, they will need to email them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and then I am able to forward them to their school email. Sending the emails directly to their school email does not work. This assignment will be due next Friday September 15th. They can log in to their google classroom by signing in to google with email@example.com and then their password is gbefirstinitalmiddleinitiallastinitial24. Please email me with any questions.
Today will be a catch up day instead of starting session 3. Students will have work time to finish their person and place personal narratives in google classroom.
Students will also have time to work on their All About Me Google Slide.
At the end of class we will learn about our third topic generating strategy and make a list of first times, last times, and times we realized something.
Students will use the second topic generating strategy (thinking of an important place) in order to complete their third powerful personal narrative assignment.
We will watch a short clip by Jack Gantos to see how he turned his story map into an intriguing personal narrative.
Students will have time to work on their narratives remembering to add details, small actions, and specific dialogue.
Today students will learn a second strategy for generating topics for powerful personal narratives. Friday we talked about how thinking of a person that is important to us and thinking of small moments that have happened with that person. Another strategy is to think of a place and then small moments that have happened there. We will draw a story map in our writer's notebooks.
Today students will work on crafting a small moment story using details and dialogue that involves a person special to them. We will work in google classroom to create another powerful personal narrative.
Enjoy your three day weekend :)
